Recently, on macosxhints.com a Mac OS X user found a way to enable the “Cut” command in the Edit menu in Finder. Full tip can be found here. When enabled, the item you cut gets placed into the trash. It appears to be half-done.
I find it sad that there is no [...]

White Electrical Tape

Posted on June 28, 2006. Filed under: DIY, electrical tape, macs, magsafe connector fraying, on the cheap, repair, white electrical tape |

I’ve owned a MacBook Pro for a couple of months and the MagSafe AC Adapter is coming a part slightly. The magnet part and the wire that attaches to it are separating very very slightly. I hate minor things like that.
I repaired it with some electrical tape. My nice, white cord has [...]

Upcoming Experiment: Thin Client

Posted on June 27, 2006. Filed under: deal, experiment, surpluscomputers.com, thin client |

Right now surpluscomputers.com is running a deal – they are selling thin clients for $20 a pop. For that deal, click here.
It runs Windows CE and I’m not sure what exactly I am going to do with two of them. I have to round up a PS/2 mouse and keyboard to use with [...]

Finder needs work

Posted on June 26, 2006. Filed under: 10.5, Apple, Mac, finder, leopard, os 10.5, os x, software, switching |

Recently, a couple of faked screenshots of Mac OS 10.5, Leopard, were making the rounds on the Internet. Included in the fake shots was a new tabbed Finder interface.
When I switched from Windows to Mac, Finder was one of the things I hated most about OS X. It was too simple [...]

Digg for Viruses

Posted on June 19, 2006. Filed under: Editorial, digg, installers, mac virus, secondary click, secondary click installer, viruses |

Several weeks ago, a piece of software was on the front page of digg.com. It was the Secondary Click installer – it would allow a MacBook Pro users to “right-click” or “control-click” using two fingers on the trackpad. I installed it on my MBP and it kind of works. It had an [...]

The new DS Lite was officially released on June 11th in the U.S. It was available early in some stores, like Target. The other day, I was in Target with my wife and I got to play “New Super Mario Brothers” on the DS Lite.
The Nintendo DS Lite is a slick piece of [...]

Low-Tech

Back in my bachelor days, I lived on my own for a while. I hated doing dishes; however, I enjoyed eating off of plates. At some point, I realized that plates were merely platforms to hold food. I got the idea to place plastic wrap over plates or any other hard surface [...]

Google and Microsoft

Google has its new Spreadsheet web-application and it’s ruffling feathers at Microsoft. People are saying that this is Google firing a shot across Microsoft’s bow (I didn’t know that they had boats, but whatever). So, Google’s got their Spreadsheet and it’s supposed to be a competitor of MS Office’s Excel (and of course Writely is [...]

Witch: Alt-Tab for Mac

Posted on June 10, 2006. Filed under: Apple, Mac, Windows functionality, Witch, alt-tab, mac software, mini-review, software, switching |

When I switched from Windows to Mac, I was pleased with the performance of OS X. I tried Expose and Command-Tab to cycle through windows. However, Expose only shows you open windows (minimized windows are hidden). Command-Tab only lets you go through the open applications. Once again, minimized applications are not [...]

Test: Skype + Bluetooth Headset + MacBook Pro

Posted on June 8, 2006. Filed under: MacBook Pro, Sony, VoIP, bluetooth, bluetooth headset, experiment, mini-review, phones, skype |

I am currently without a landline phone. I have relocated for the summer and I chose not to get a standard phone. I have high-speed Internet access, so I decided to use Skype on a MacBook Pro and I just added a Bluetooth headset so I could talk and walk away from my [...]
